A Successful and Fun Spring Season for the Foxcroft Riding Program

A Successful and Fun Spring Season for the Foxcroft Riding Program

After a winter away showing at WEF and focusing on IEA competitions, it was nice to switch gears and focus on taking a broad range of riders to a variety of horse show venues throughout the spring season.

We kicked off the spring adventures with a trip to Littlestown, PA, for the Swan Lake April National show. With four riders and five horses attending this show, it was a nice opportunity to get things rolling again after spending the winter season in Virginia working on solidifying new horse partnerships and strengthening core skills. This show had Foxcroft riders competing in classes from the .70m to the 1.15m where they garnered their fair share of ribbons and learned a lot. The full results are listed below.

After a spirited Fox/Hound riding competition and a delightful Reunion Weekend, we turned our attention to the next two rated competitions on the Foxcroft calendar that would take place before the end of the school year. These two weeks at the beautiful Virginia Horse Center in Lexington are always two of our favorite show weeks of the year — the weather is usually lovely, the rings are nice, and the area is surrounded by peaceful vistas.

There were 11 horses from Foxcroft at the Lexington Spring Premiere and the Lexington Spring Encore shows. With some changes in the Foxcroft show roster from the first to the second week due to AP exam preparations, a group of ten riders competed over these two weeks. The riders, ranging from showing in the Long Stirrup division to the 1.25 jumpers, demonstrated their skills in both the hunter and the jumper rings and collected multiple prizes for their efforts. A highlight from Spring Premiere was Esme D. ’27 riding senior Irene B.’s horse, Pablo, to the Reserve Championship in the 1.0m Jr/Am Jumper division. This was all the more impressive since this duo only began contesting the 1.0m classes at the end of the WEF circuit and this was their first outing after their Florida adventures.

During the week of Spring Encore, the riders really soared to new heights as they rode exceptionally well and added five tri-colors to the Foxcroft banner. Madison B. ’24 and her new horse Moonwalk and Sammie M. ’27 on 50 Shades took home the Championship and Reserve Championship honors respectively, in the Junior Pleasure division. In the jumper ring, Sofia K. ’26 and Foxcroft’s Luck of the Draw were incredibly consistent in their rounds and earned the title of Champion in the .85 Jr/Am Jumper division. Valeksa F. ’26 and Blue Star also did well in that same division taking the Reserve Championship honors. Capping the excitement during Spring Encore was Cierra C. ’25 and her mare, Generosa MK, making their second-ever showing in the 1.20/1.25 Jr/Am Jumper classes memorable by taking home the Championship ribbon and having Cierra named Leading Junior Jumper Rider at the show. What a fantastic way to begin this next chapter in her riding journey! The complete results from these two weeks in Lexington are below.

As you read this, the Foxcroft Riding Program adventures continue with students competing at the Upperville Jump for Fun, the Upperville Colt and Horse Show, and the Loudoun Benefit Show during these first few weeks of June. We will be sure to share news from those competitions before we gear up to welcome several riders to campus to participate in the Foxcroft Summer Riding Camp two-day Clinic and the week-long Residential Riding Camp at the end of June.
